I Spy … 1951

Clockwise : Anthony Blunt, Donald Maclean, Kim Philby, Guy Burgess

1951 was not a good year for spies,  particularly if you were one of the gentlemen pictured left.
They belonged to a ring of spies known as The Cambridge Five , a group of British born spies working for the Soviet Union from some time in the 1930s to at least the early 1950s.
Guy Burgess and Donald Maclean both defected in the summer of 1951. Kim Philby resigned from MI6 in July 1951. Anthony Blunt, a member of MI5, wasn’t publicly exposed until some years later. The alleged fifth member was John Cairncross.
