Royal Ascot  is one of Europe’s most famous race meetings, and dates back to 1711 when it was founded by Queen Anne. Every year Royal Ascot is attended by HM The Queen and various members of the Royal Family.

Princess Elizabeth attended Royal Ascot in 1951.
This is her pictured left in the Royal box with the Duke of Gloucester. They are inspecting the Royal Hunt Cup.
Follow this link  for a British Pathe newsreel of Royal Ascot 1951. The featured race is the Ascot Stakes. The winner was at first announced as Royaliste but after an objection the race went to Guerrier.
