- The 1951 Club is intended to be a celebration of all-things associated with the year 1951. Someone asked me why I did a blog about the year of my birth. Simple. It’s easier than doing one about the year of my death.

I really like what you’re doing with this site. I was 6 years old in 1951, the year I started grammar school in a small Iowa town (we didn’t have a kindergarten program until ’51, so I missed it by one year). Also the year I saw “The Thing from Another World,” a great movie that scared the hell out of me. Anyway, your site really resonates with me. Keep up the good work.

Just had a look at your post about James Bond … terrific stuff! Well written. Also … ” The Thing from Another World ” was pretty scarey. Another brilliant 1951 film was ” The Day the Earth Stood Still “. The robot GORT was in this of course and he is actually a bona fide member of the 1951 Club. ( I tracked him down to a Science fiction museum and wrote him a letter … check him out on the search box).
