An_American_in_Paris_posterAn American in Paris, a lavish, Technicolor, Gershwin-scored musical, was a major surprise winner of the Best Picture Award in 1951. Starring Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Oscar Levant, Georges Guetary and Nina Foch. The film won a total of six Oscars. The story of the film is interspersed with dance numbers choreographed by Gene Kelly himself.


The film was about an ex-GI painter (Gene Kelly) who remained in Paris following the war, and became enmeshed in a romantic triangle between a rich American patroness (Nina Foch) and a lovely 19 year-old French dancer (Leslie Caron).

Songs and music include I Got Rhythm, I’ll Build a Stairway to Paradise, ‘S Wonderful and Our Love is Here to Stay.
