A Real Diamond Geezer …

I just love this. These fine words come from Bertie Charles Forbes (1880 – 1954). He was a Scottish-born American financial journalist and author who founded Forbes magazine.

Strictly speaking, the science of this is on rather dodgy ground. Both coal and diamonds are made of carbon, yes, but they were formed in  processes which occured under very different conditions over a period of hundreds of millions of years.

All the same – I would like to draw an analogy here. In writing, we take our ideas and fashion them into words. The process includes drafting, editing, cutting and polishing. When it is finished then the words will sparkle like the true diamonds they are. Hopefully the process won’t take millions of years although it may sometimes feel like it! And like the man said – Diamonds are Forever.
