Never Sacrifice your Gift …


Steve Prefontaine (1951 – 1975)

Steve Prefontaine, born in 1951, was an American middle and long-distance runner who competed in the 1972 Olympics. He once held the American record in seven different distance track events from the 2,000 metres to the 10,000 metres. Prefontaine died in May 1975 at the age of 24 in an automobile accident.

  2. Prefontaine is buried at Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay.

    A day after his funeral in Coos Bay, a memorial service at Hayward Field in Eugene drew thousands. How sad he had his life cut short.
