The 1951 Rolling Review Show (Midweek Melody) … # 41

Welcome to the 1951 Rolling Review Show which twice weekly features pieces of music I have enjoyed at some time in my life. I hope you enjoy them as well. Let me know and please feel free to Reblog.

Pearl Fishers’ Duet ( Georges Bizet)

The-Pearl-Fishers

This is the Pearl Fishers’ Duet (“Au fond du temple saint”) from Georges Bizet’s 1863 opera Les pêcheurs de perles. It is performed here by Jussi Björling & Robert Merrill. I always find this a tremendously powerful and moving piece of music. It is a song about deep friendship and undying love. Whatever else you choose to do today, listen to this. You will be the better for it.

  1. “Pearl Fishers” is a wonderful duet, and is “up there” with “Mir ist die Ehre widerfahren” (Der Rosenkavalier) and who could ever forget the British Airways ad using “Lakmé – Viens, Mallika (Flower Duet)” 🙂
