A Tale of Two Farthings …

1951 Farthing - King George VI. ReverseThis British Farthing was one of over 14 million minted in 1951 during the reign of George VI. It had a diameter of 22mm and was worth a quarter of a pre- decimal Penny. The tiny bird on the reverse is a wren.
They may have been small and of little value but the really important thing to remember is ….

barratts-black-jacks-fruit-salads-620-p …. that Fruit Salads and Black Jacks  only cost a farthing each way back in the 1950s and early 1960s.
These delicious sweets are still around  but not at four a penny mind you!
The last Farthings were minted in 1956 and ceased to be legal tender in 1960.
