The American film director, producer and writer Kathryn Bigelow was born on November 27, 1951. Her films include the vampire Western horror film Near Dark (1987), the action crime film Point Break (1991), the science fiction action thriller Strange Days (1995), the mystery thriller The Weight of Water (2000), the submarine thriller K-19: The Widowmaker (2002), the war film The Hurt Locker (2008), the action thriller war film Zero Dark Thirty (2012), and the short film Last Days of Ivory (2014). The Hurt Locker won the 2009 Academy Award for Best Picture and the BAFTA Award for Best Film, and was nominated for the 2009 Golden Globe Award for Best Drama.

Rupert Allason ( born 8th November 1951) is a military historian and former Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. He was the Member of Parliament for Torbay in Devon, from 1987 to 1997. He writes books on the subject of espionage under the pen name Nigel West.

André Aciman

A very warm 1951 Club welcome to writer André Aciman. André was born in Alexandria, Egypt and now lives in the US. He is currently a distinguished professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. His memoir, Out of Egypt(1995), won a Whiting Writers’ Award.
